Lexus GX460

In the modern world, not many luxury cars are able to stay true to their roots – the Lexus GX is an exception though.

Even 20 years after its debut, it remains a powerful and capable offroader, which provides an upscale driving experience for its occupants.

These quirks, along with its unmatched dependability and larger-than-life demeanor, make it a force to be reckoned with.

The 2023 Lexus GX460 is now out and about. The following is a review of its highlights:

Features

The 2023 Lexus GX is a continuation of the second generation of the GX nameplate.

For this year, the updates include some changes to the exterior and some add-ons to the list of standard amenities.

You get a generous list of standard safety equipment due to the  Lexus Safety System+.

There’s also the exclusive Black Line Edition trim; only 3000 models are available with it.

Also offered is list of stellar packages such as the Off-Road package that add to the trailblazing prowess of the 2023 GX.

Powertrain and Numbers

The Lexus GX460 is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine that makes 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. It is one of the select few new vehicles to offer the legendary V8, which is a testament to its old-school capabilities.

The new GX 2023 comes with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. During Motor Trend magazine’s test run, they said that it “shifted smoothly,”.

It sends power to all 4 wheels to enhance traction in all conditions. Also, it helps the GX achieve a stellar 0-60 mph time of 7 seconds, which is mindboggling for a vehicle its size.

KBB has described the GX as a vehicle with “ample power and plenty of towing muscle.”

This is due to its high towing capacity of 6500 pounds. Not to mention its underrated hauling abilities that max out at 1470 pounds.

As far as the fuel economy is concerned, the GX was able to achieve 20 mpg on the highway in Car and Driver’s test drive. This is quite a commendable figure for such a large engine.

Exterior and Driving

Looks

The 2023 GX’s exterior is as luxurious as its interior. It isn’t over-the-top like its rivals, but it has a classy look, resembling a Lexus.

You get a choice of three 18-inch six-spoked alloy wheels with different designs and finishes. A set of 19-inchers is also available.

The colors on the 2023 GX are Atomic Silver, Black Onyx, Caviar, Eminent White Pearl, Nebula Gray Pearl, Nightfall Mica, and Nori Green Pearl.

Drive

The GX’s driving prowess is praiseworthy for its size and class. Autotrader has described it as “pleasant, with a soft ride and excellent noise suppression.”

Edmunds also has good things to say about the GX 2023, that it “has decent on- and off-road handling,”.

The GX460 is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado so it is a natural dirt-eater.

But you can make it even better. If you opt for the Off-road package on the Luxury, you unlock side-view trail cameras, mult-terrain modes, and low-speed cruise control.

Other hardware includes fuel tank protection, and a tranny oil cooler, along with the Luxury’s very own adaptive air suspension.
